All about the trip

This walk takes us to one of the most beautiful lakes of the island and to all its surrounding area. This is a very complete hike that passes through a big variety of native and endemic vegetation. We will pick you up in Ponta Delgada to take you to this wonderful location you should not miss during your holidays in São Miguel Island.

The hike will start next to the beach in Água d’Alto. The lake occupies the bottom of a collapsed caldera, and when we arrive there, you will have a picnic lunch with a view.

This 12km hike is considered medium level because in the morning, on the way to the lake, the trail goes mostly uphill for about 2 hours. After lunch, the trail is mostly downhill and we must be more careful to avoid slipping. We will drop you off in Ponta Delgada in the late afternoon.
