All about the trip

On this tour, we will feel and experience the volcanic origins of the island in Furnas, a magical place full of geothermal activity. After picking up in Ponta Delgada at 9 am, we start by visiting the Caldeiras da Lagoa das Furnas (Furnas Lake Calderas), a place where we cook the famous “Cozido das Furnas”, one of the most emblematic dishes of the Azores. It is a mixture of regional vegetables and meats cooked with the help of volcanic activity. A gastronomic experience you cannot miss. This is a very special meal cooked only with the steam of the Earth.

Later on, we will visit the centenary Terra Nostra botanical garden that is famous for its extraordinary collection of native plants from the Azores, as well as others from all over the world that have adapted to the local garden conditions. At the end of the visit, you are invited to go for a dip in iron-rich hot water swimming pool that has a temperature of 35-40ºC (95-104°F), an enchanting and relaxing experience.

Next, we will have the Cozido meal that is served in a local restaurant. After lunch, we will visit the town of Furnas, with its fumaroles and springs with water of different tastes. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, we will pass by the North Coast and also at the tea plantation Gorreana where we will be able to visit the working tea factory and have a lovely break to taste the local tea.
