All about the trip

We will leave at 8:00 in a direction of Fuente Dé in the heart of Picos de Europa. Our trip will last around 2 hours during which we will enjoy the green colors of the Cantabrian mountains and valleys. The most beautiful part of the trip will definitely be passing through the gorge of La Hermida, a set of narrow gorges along the river Deva.

Once in Fuente Dé, we will reach the mountains in the cable car. Fuente Dé is listed as one of the 7 natural wonders in Spain. The views from Picos de Europa are incredible and you will have the impression of almost touching the clouds.

Afterwards, we will do a 2-hour hike in the mountains. It will be a beautiful experience to walk in this unequaled place.

After this experience, we will head to Potes, the capital of Liebana. This place is one of the most attractive municipalities of Cantabria thanks to its medieval houses surrounded by a spectacular landscape of mountains and the rivers Deva and Quiviesa. We will stop here to have our meal (not included). Local gastronomy is very good indeed. You can choose “Cocido montañés” or a “Cocido Lebaniego”. Both local tasty specialties with beans or chickpeas.

Next to Potes, there is the Monastery of Toribio de Liébana, a must visit for every Christian. The Monastery of Toribio was a place of pilgrimage for a long time since it holds the Lignum Crucis, the largest piece conserved from the cross of Christ, specifically the left arm. This monastery, together with Santiago, Rome and Jerusalem, are the only ones that hold a piece of the cross of Jesus Christ. The Monastery also holds the remains of Santo Toribio de Astorga. When it is Jubilee Year, the doors open for forgiveness and pilgrims can reach be cleansed of all their sins.

After such an intense day, it will be time to relax in the Hermida, one of the best spas in Spain. Its waters are considered the best in Europe for its medicinal mineral properties. We will enjoy an hour of the thermal bath. Children under 8 years old will only have access to the central pool of the spa.
