All about the trip

Walk the ancient road linking the north and the south of Madeira. Magnificent scenery is changing at every turn here. Enjoy breathtaking views of the highest peaks and the village of Nuns Valley nestled far below.

The 12.5-km long hike leads at the base of Madeira's highest mountains. You will see the island's endemic flora and fauna including laurel forests and many bird species.

There are quite a few climbs and descents during the hike but your efforts will be rewarded by fantastic views. Curral das Freitas or Nuns Valley is located in the center of Madeira and we will see the isolated village below surrounded by mountains.
