All about the trip
Go for a hike in the most virgin and unique place in Europe. Admire the dramatic scenery of stunning rock formations and the untouched beauty of wild nature rich in rare plants and birds. Enjoy the breathtaking views and refresh yourself in the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea at the end of the hike.
We will set off on our journey early in the morning and take an air-conditioned luxury bus to the gorge stopping on the way to have a breakfast. Our hike starts at Xiloskalo where we enter the canyon and start our 6 to 7-hour hike that ends at the sea shore.
Our path follows the river Taras and we will see caves there once inhabited by people. Wild goats are now taking shelter there.
Halfway through the hike we will come to the abandoned village of Santa Maria and then continue to the Iron Gates. Just a few meters wide, this impressive rock gate is 300 meters high and it is an amazing experience to pass through this majestic exit of Samaria Gorge.
At the end of our hike we can have lunch at the fishing village of Agia Roumeli and refresh ourselves by swimming in the deep blue waters of the Libyan Sea.
