Chake Chake is located in the middle of Pemba island about 15 minutes drive from Karume Airport and it is situated on a hill with a view on the bay where the tides determine when a dhow can enter the harbor. It is some few kilometers from the only airport on the island, Karume Airport, and is well served with banks, post office, hospitals, and other essential services. Chake Chake is an unofficial capital of Pemba with most of the government offices.

Lively Chake Chake, set on a ridge overlooking mangrove-filled Chake Chake Bay, is Pemba’s main town and the best base for visiting the island’s southern half. There’s no equivalent of Stone Town here, but it’s an appealingly scruffy city whose compact core is packed tight with small shops and makes for an interesting walk. One of the interesting excursions in Pemba is a 3-hour guided city tour which takes you to most historical sites in Pemba. You will visit the Chake town market (opened 1904). Here you will be able to see and buy tropical fruits and spices (if you wish).

You will also feel the pulse of Pemba and hear different dialects being spoken by the people at the market. From there you will be proceeding to the Old Fort house, English garden to the old slave port, and the fish market.

General staff training is in place regarding new protocols to prevent the spread of Covid19.

This training is in various stages:

Initial: containing basic information about the illness, personal hygiene, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and departmental procedures.

Follow-up: reinforces the basic points and any improvements made. Plus, follows up employees’ concerns and needs.
