All about the trip
Start your day with a private pick-up from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and in less than an hour reach the trekking starting point in Chae Son National Park. The morning trek is mostly uphill and you will be surrounded by dense mixed forests and cool air. Count with 2 to 3 hours to reach the top of the trail at 1500 m above the sea level. Take in the amazing views over mountain ranges of Lampang and Chiang Mai province. Reward yourself with a break and enjoy a typical north Thai lunch.
Continue with the second trek that leads you mostly downhill for 2 to 3 hours. On the way, you can spot fermented tea and coffee plantations cultivated by local villagers. Reach to the top of Mae Kampong waterfall, a seven-tiered waterfall that falls over a limestone cliff, accompanied only by lush greenery and birds singing.
After the waterfall, visit Ban Mae Kampong village known for its warm hospitality and charm of a unique northern Thai culture. Local villagers identify themselves as Khon Muang or people of the land. The community is most renowned for ecotourism and environmental conservation practices offering tea-fermenting traditions, coffee plantations, traditional music, herbal medicine healers, bamboo weavers, and black-smiths.
Before you head back to Chiang Mai, take a bath at Sankhampaeng Hot Springs. This area of sulfurous pools emitting waters at temperatures over 70 °C is ideal if you want to improve your blood flow or boil eggs for dinner.
