There is an archipelago off the coast of Istanbul called Princes' Islands as it served as a royalty exile in the Byzantine era. Later it became a popular resort for wealthy Istanbul residents and there are still Victorian-era cottages and houses preserved on the largest island.

All motorized vehicles – except service vehicles – are forbidden here and the only means of transport is bicycle and horse carriage.

The peaceful islands have become a popular escape from busy Istanbul, especially in summer. In other seasons the islands can become inaccessible due to storms and rough sea.
