All about the trip
We begin the tour by picking you up from your Phnom Penh hotel at 7:30. We’ll make a short transfer to a pagoda that stands just outside the city limits where we then start riding our bicycles. Cycling along the paved road here, we’ll quickly leave behind the city’s hustle and bustle for the quiet winding dirt roads of the countryside. Rolling hillsides create the backdrop as we cycle through the area’s sweeping rice fields and palm trees. These prickly palms often host fermenting palm wine, a Cambodian specialty. The trail continues past the impressive Khmer Temple of the Heavens and into the small villages that today make up Oudong. Tucked in a valley among green hills, we’ll stop at a small village that is built at the base of an impressive temple, indicating Oudong’s historical governance. In the authentic market here, we’ll lunch on savory fruits, vegetables and Cambodian specialties. If you’re up for it, we’ll also make our way up the temple’s 500 steps for a breathtaking view.
After lunch, we’ll continue to cycle through small villages, many of which are elevated on stilts over ponds or flooded rice fields. Escaping again into an isolated countryside, we’ll also bike along the shores of shallow lakes that often boast blooming lilies and lotus. As we approach Phnom Penh city limits, the van will meet us to chauffeur you back to the hotels. Usually, we will have you back to your hotel around 17:00.
