All about the trip
Our tour guide will pick you up in the morning from your hotel and we will drive to Salay, known for its cultural heritage.
At the first stop of this tour, we will see the exceptional woodcarving decorating Yoke Sone Monastery, which was built in 1882 by King Thipaw.
On our second stop, we will visit the 150-year old teak monastery Sarsana Yaungchi, which was built by King Mindon. Admire the ancient Buddha images and antique cabinets decorated with floral ornaments as well as Myanmar paintings in gold and silver colors. The cabinets contain silk packets with Buddhist scriptures written on palm leaves going back to the 18th century.
After the lunch, we will drive to Mt. Popa, an extinct volcano. You'll have to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak, but you will be rewarded with fantastic views over the beautiful natural surroundings of the mountain. Mt. Popa has been dedicated to animist spirits known as Nats. You can see statues of the Nats on a staircase at the bottom of the mountain. In the afternoon you will return to your hotel with our guide.
