All about the trip
This one-day cycling exploration trip takes you to many ethnic minority groups living in southern Laos, such as Akha, Lantan, and Tai Dam. This is your chance to see how locals produce traditional products like silk and cotton textiles with natural coloring, woven bamboo baskets, and whiskey. You also ride along the valley and paddy fields, and see the ruins of an old Stupa.
Your tour begins in our headquarters, where you meet your friendly local guide. He takes you to the river Namtha, where the local people plant their vegetables or rice, depending on the season. From the saddle of your bike, you ride across a bamboo bridge towards the first village of Ban ThongChai-Tai. Here you can see some traditional houses. After that, you explore the vast open flat land area of Luang Namtha. In the wet season, you can enjoy the views of the green rice paddies and the giant evergreen mountains in the background.
Next, you head to Poum Pouk Stupa, the most ancient architecture of the Tai Leu ethnic minority group, which is set on the top of a mountain. From this point, you have panoramic views of the town.
Following your schedule, you head to the Akha village of Ban Nam Mud and then to the Nam Ngaen village, where you can observe locals making the rice whiskey. You can even try the beverage if you want.
Continuing, you cycle along the tranquil rice paddies to Ban Phieng Ngam (Red Tai ethnic minority group), where you visit a family who weaves textiles. Just before sunset, you cycle another 6km back to the town for a last view of the local nature.
