All about the trip

Take on the challenge of the night trek to the top of the active volcano of Mount Agung. Walk through the dense jungle and climb on all fours to get to the peak to enjoy the reward of a fantastic sunrise. Visit the largest Balinese temple Pura Besakih high on the slopes of the volcano.

Late at night we drive to the Pura Besakih temple located at the altitude of 1 000 m on the slopes of Mount Agung. This is the most important holy site in Bali consisting of a large complex of 23 temples. Several of them resemble megalithic stepped pyramids dating back at least 2 000 years.

At 11.00 p.m. we begin our trek. It will take us 5 to 7 hours to reach the peak. The path leads through the dense jungle at times and the final part is so steep that it requires to climb on all fours for the last hour before reaching the top.

We arrive shortly before the dawn and savor the magnificent view of the rising sun while relaxing our muscles after the difficult climb.

Having enjoyed the greatest show nature can offer we start our descend. We arrive back to the Pura Besakih temple at 12.00 p.m. and board our cars for a drive back.
