The life of the Jewish community in Istanbul dates back for more than 1000 years. In the Ottoman era, Sultan Mehmet II encouraged half a million Jews who were persecuted in Spain and Portugal at that time to settle in the empire.

Stroll through the colorful streets of the Galata quarter on the northern bank of the Golden Horn. Listen to the amazing story of Abraham Camondo. See the Jewish Apartments and learn about the daily life of the community.

To be able to get permission for entrance to synagogues we need to make a reservation. Please either bring a copy of your passport to our office in person or send it by fax 4 days before the tour. This tour does not take place during Jewish and Muslim religious holidays.

Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera and a bottle of water.
