All about the trip

Following your pick-up from the Airport our local guide takes us to the Sultan Ahmet Square and visit; Hagia Sophia; Built in 537 AD as the world’s first large dome building it was the religious focal point of the Orthodox Church before its conversion to a Muslim Mosque. We have a look at its unique decoration from Byzantine and Turkish periods. Then we enjoy a short walk across to Blue Mosque; Built in 17th century it owes its fame to the exquisite Iznik Tiles. Hippodrome is the next highlight which we will see, as well as the Egyptian Obelisk and Serpent Column at this ancient Roman Empire’s horse chariots races arena. We then go to the underground cistern which is the size of a cathedral; it is 143m long and 65m wide and can hold up to 80,000 cubic meters (or 17.5 million gallons) of water. There are 336 giant columns (mostly Ionic or Corinthian in style) supporting the structure in 12 rows of 28 columns. After lunch at a local restaurant we visit the amazing Topkapi Palace; which from 15th to the 19th Century was the principle residence of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. Our guide gives a tour at the gardens halls where we view staggering collection of imperial and religious treasury golden thrones and emerald crowns. After the tour, we will drive you back to the airport.
