All about the trip
A private tour is sure to enhance your experience of Angkor Archeological Park by cycling, indisputably Cambodia’s most popular attraction. During this personalized experience, you’ll benefit from lesser-known historical and cultural commentary from a guide and get an intimate glimpse into parts of the site that large tour groups don’t usually have access to.
At 08:00 AM, explore some of Angkor’s lesser-known temples on a half-day hidden temples cycle tour. Travel by bike for an off-the-beaten-path journey. We begin by heading outside Angkor Thom there are two small-yet impressive temples. Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda are examples of the classical Angkor style from the first half of the 12th century. The small circuit road crosses the Siem Reap River close to an inconspicuous ancient stone bridge, Spean Thma.
The next major monument on our cycle tour is the impressive temple pyramid Ta Keo dating back to the second half of the 10th century. Behind Ta Keo, the small circuit road turns right. At this corner, there is a trail to the north to the hidden structure Ta Nei, a smaller and less visited version of Angkor’s hidden jungle temples. We journey back to the main circuit to see Ta Prohm. We enter that flat temple of enormous size from the west and leave on the opposite side, where your driver can wait for you at the eastern car park.
Ta Prohm is remarkable not only for its stone-cracking trees but as a work of art, too. It is one of the many heritage monuments founded by the Buddhist king Jayavarman VII. Journey on to another temple from the same Bayon period, located immediately to the southeast of Ta Prohm known as Banteay Kdei, located in front of the historical reservoir Srah Srang. It is an idyllic sunrise or sunset point. South of Srah Srang, reachable by using a minor road branching off the main road, is a Buddhist private temple built as early as the mid-10th century, it is called Bat Chum. On the way back to the Angkor Wat area and Siem Reap you will see the five Prasat towers of Prasat Kravan on the left side of the road. They are noteworthy due to interior bas relief decoration.
