All about the trip
Journey off-the-beaten-path to visit some unique temples from the Angkor kingdom. Our first stop of the half-day tour is the Preah Khan temple. Built by King Jayavarman VII, Preah Khan is, like Ta Prohm, is a place of towered enclosures and shoulder-hugging corridors. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain the temple’s original structure.
Back on two wheels, we head off for Neak Pean. A fountain built in the middle of a pool, Neak Pean gives us a view into the beauty and luxury of the olden days. Representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake, it’s a unique hidden jungle spot off the main tourist trail. From there we head on to Pre Rup Temple. Built during the late 10th century by Khmer king Rajendravarman II, Pre Kup is revered for the boldness of its architectural design. Following this, we go to celebrated Banteay Srei. Consider by many to be the jewel in the crown of Angkorian art, it is one of the most beautiful temples, constructed in 967 AD by Jayavarman V. Your guide will introduce you to the history of this 10th-century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
