All about the trip

Enjoy an adventure trip to the pirate island of Gramvousa once the base of 3 000 rebels. Explore its Venetian castle with the view of an old shipwreck. Have a swim in the beautiful Balos lagoon with warm water and gorgeous beach. And admire the natural beauty all around including numerous bird and plant species.

We will get on an air-conditioned bus and drive to the port of Kissamos stopping in the city of Rethimnon on the way to refresh ourselves with a coffee and have a breakfast.

Once in the port we board our boat and set off for Gramvousa Island. We will see a vast cave on our way which had once served as a shipyard. And we can also see sea turtles, monkey seals and dolphins.

We will witness a fascinating geological phenomenon when the 2 sides of the island are lifting and sinking with the western side rising up to 9 meters above the sea level.

Once we disembark on the pirate island we can admire the Venetian castle strategically positioned on a sheer cliff. There is a legend about a pirate treasure there. And it offers a dramatic view of an old shipwreck.

We will explore the area which is one of the most significant hydro-biotopes of the Eastern Mediterranean with hundreds of plant species including numerous cacti.

We will have time to enjoy the gorgeous beach of the Balos lagoon and have a swim in its warm turquoise waters.
