All about the trip

Seeing fresh lava flowing out of a volcano is one of the most extraordinary natural spectacles on earth. So, if there are eruptions happening in Etna, we will take you to see it from a privileged viewpoint.

This full-day hiking adventure starts in our meeting point, where we take you to the beginning of the trail on a 4x4 Jeep or minibus. After that, you hike on an adventurous terrain to reach the observation point. You are guided by a naturalistic expert who shows you the uncountable natural aspects of the volcano. You also receive binoculars to see the lava flow up close. If the condition allows, you can even get closer to the majestic caldera of Valle del Bove. During the tour, it will be possible to take spectacular photos from the best photo spots.

Covering an area of 1,190 km² with a basal circumference of 140 km, Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe outside the Caucasus, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage.

The path taken may vary according to the typology of eruption - from the summit or flanks of the volcano.

The path can involve some trekking of medium or high difficulty and may not be suitable for everybody. Check it in advance.

Approaching the lava flow depends on security conditions.

The starting time may change according to the season of the year.

What to take with you?

Don’t forget to bring your hiking shoes (also available for rent), windbreaker jacket or sweatshirt, water, and camera.
You can rent shoes (3€), windbreaker jacket (2€), and hiking sticks (2€) from us.

We can also arrange a transfer from hotels in Catania and villages nearby Etna, from Taormina or other places outside the province.
