All about the trip
This trip comes in response to our guest’s enthusiasm for longer trips that travel a greater distance reaching outside of the expected tourism territory but limited to a one day. The tour is a perfect and unique opportunity to see as much raw nature as possible, both on the landscape above and below (caving included) while reveling in the roar of your buggy. You start driving your buggy on a lonely trail in the backlands of Reykjavik. Following the trail, you will reach Hengill mountain range and Hellisheiðarvirkjun, the power plant for Reykjavik. You follow the trail to a place called “Þúsund vatna leiðir” – “The valley of one thousand rivers”. As the name suggests, a lot of splashing and fun is waiting for you. After your lunch break in a cozy little restaurant, you will head to the iconic blue mountains. The trail leads you through a huge lava field with old inactive volcanoes around it. Next stop will be Kleifarvatn lake and Krýsuvik geothermal area. But the fun is not over yet. After a short break, you head out to Vigdísarvellir. Vigdísarvellir, along with Lake Djúpavatn, is part of the high-temperature geothermal area on the Reykjanes Peninsula. You will see spectacular lava formations and with a little bit of luck some of the „hidden people“ of Iceland.
Traveling through the trails in the far reaches of the Reykjanes Peninsula, we’ll come across a hidden gem tucked in the interior of the rocky lava mountains. Lake Djúpavatn is a perfect stop to appreciate the immense beauty of the day. You’ll come to quickly understand how volcanically active Iceland is when we visit our next stop Krýsuvik Geothermal Area. Here there are cracks in the Earth that breathe and bubble with life. The mineral muds and high-temperature water creates a stunning display of Mother Nature’s power and beauty. We’ll head through another mountainous region to arrive at our final destination, the beautiful town of Hvergerði.
