All about the trip
At 8:00 we will start the tour with the exciting surroundings of Bucharest city. We will first head towards Targoviste city, the former capital of Wallachia region. Here we will visit the old Princely Court, where Vlad the Impaler ruled from. We will learn more about his life from the exhibition housed in the Chindia Tower. This is the first highlight on our tour.
We will continue our tour to the northern regions of Arges country. We will step into the marvelous landscape of the mountains. We can make a new stop at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains, to explore a stronghold built by Vlad the Impaler himself. Poenari citadel is a strong fortress on a high hill dominating the entire area.
Poenari’s history begins with Negru Voda, the noble who built a tower in the 13th century. He wanted to extend a defense plan to northern Wallachia. In 1456, Vlad the Impaler found the place and decided that such a good site deserved better exploitation. He added four more towers, joined by solid brick walls, settling here his second residence after Targoviste. In fact, Tepes had to rebuild the original structure, seriously destroyed by a great earthquake. There are many legends about the fortress.
Having seen where he was born and lived, it is only natural to discover, where Dracula was buried. Snagov is a small and enchanting monastery on an island near Bucharest where one can see the tomb of Dracula. This is our last stop.
