All about the trip
Join us for an unforgettable day trip to Suwon Hwaseong as we venture away from the beating heart of Seoul.
Officially a UNESCO World Heritage site, Suwon Hwaseong is home to a unique blend of eastern and western architectural styles. The Korean Folk Village itself is home to over twenty workshops, including various handicrafts such as pottery, baskets, winnows, bamboo wares, wooden wares, paper, brass wares, knots, fans, musical instruments, iron wares and embroidery. All of these activities are practised in the folk village and visitors are always encouraged to learn more about these ancient crafts.
The Hwaseong Fortress is recognised as the official fortress of Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, from the latter days of the Joseon Period (1392-1910). Its construction began on the fortress in 1794 and was finished in 1796.
The fortress's outside wall is over 5 km in length and it has a great variety of military facilities you cannot find at other fortress.
The Korean Folk Village itself is located in a beautiful natural environment occupying approximately 243 acres. Visitors can also experience over 260 traditional Korean houses reminiscent of the late Joseon Dynasty.
Many of the buildings' features have been relocated and fully-restored to provide visitors with a in-depth understanding of Korean food, clothing, and architectural style of the past.
We will visit the Folk Museum, as well as the Art Museum, to learn about the essence of Korean culture and folk customs.
The Korean Folk Village was also the filming location for the famous movie Scandal as well as the TV miniseries Daejanggeum.
