All about the trip
Discover a part of Bangkok that knows no traffic, but narrows streets and backyards. Pass by alone villas, luxurious apartments, townhouses, and small companies and factories. Make your first stop at one of the many hidden local communities in Bangkok.
What we might call a slum, is "home" for its residents. Meet some of the poorest people in the capital that still shine their light and are very friendly, polite, generous and welcoming. Walk through the community until you reach the slum's kindergarten. The very poorest children receive education here while their parents are working. Visiting a slum like this is a reminder that not everyone is as fortunate. Organizers of the tour decided to make this a better place and have been sponsoring the kindergarten since 2005.
Continue biking towards a sweatshop before you arrive at the pier. Board a typical Thai longtail boat to cross the mighty Chao Phraya River. On the other side of the river, find yourself surrounded by "jungle" in the greenest area of the city. Admire massive coconut palms and banana trees as you paddle through the lush vegetation.
Halfway through the tour, refresh yourself in a local restaurant where you get a small Thai meal, either Pad Thai (Thai noodles) or Khao Pad (fried rice). After the meal, visit a non-touristy Buddhist temple and learn about Buddhism in general.
On the way back to the city, make the last stop at an open-air Muay Thai school. Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, is the national sport and cultural martial art of Thailand founded several hundred years ago.
Experience Bangkok in a different light. The pace is relaxed and we make enough stops for taking photos, explanation of sights and having something to drink and relax.
