All about the trip
Join us for the journey to the neighboring country, where many beautiful sights await us.
We will start our trip with a stop by a very famous Bulgarian church, very near to the Romanian border. The Ivanovo Church is UNESCO heritage since 1979 and is highly appreciated for the rock-hewn church and for the impressive XIII-XIVth century frescos.
After this, we continue our journey towards the heart of Bulgaria, where one of the most amazing cities of this country is located. Veliko Tarnovo is located on the banks of the Yantra river, also known as the City of Tsars. Veliko boasts an impressive fortress with the ruins of the former Tsarevets Palace and the patriarchal church, today with modern and intriguing paintings. Veliko Tarnovo is a highlight on our trip.
After Veliko Tarnovo, a visit by a most wonderful village follows. We will discover the famous stone village of Arbanasi. This is the only village in Bulgaria that keeps the old architectural style of Bulgarian medieval times. Arbanasi is a small town full of history, located in the Veliko Tarnovo district. The name comes from the Turkish word Arnavut, meaning an inhabitant coming from Albania or Macedonia. Arbanassi is a few kilometers away from Veliko, on the plateau of a slightly higher hill. Due to the migration of the Turks, Greeks and Albanians, there has been created a diverse population that left an inheritance of original culture. Many visitors come to this picturesque place where we find houses, streets, fountains, churches and monasteries with unique icons and murals.
With our batteries fully charged we can drive back to Bucharest. We will arrive back around 20:00.
