All about the trip

On this trip, we will visit the Calata region, which is known as an area populated by Hungarian speakers and it is famed for its extraordinarily colorful and richly decorated folk costumes.

We will start our day with a half an hour transfer to the starting point which is situated 40 km from Cluj.

We will have just a short warm-up ride and we will get to the first church in Manastireni. This is the oldest church in Cluj county dated from 18th century. It follows a 5 km ride to get to probably the most beautiful church in Calata region, in Valeni.

We are going to have our lunch in one of the following villages. It might be a picnic lunch or a traditional meal with locals.

The next highlight of our trip is a decorated room with painted furniture. This type of art is very important and traditional in this area. Leaving Jebucu and crossing a picturesque field, we arrive at Stana. It is a very isolated village. From Stana we will take a little uphill on a field road and we will get to the crown castle. This building was the summer house and a favorite place of the famous Transylvanian architect Kós Károly.

After Nadasu, a beautiful valley leads to the main road and our starting point. At this part, we might see some gypsy charcoal burners.
