All about the trip
Once you get your bike adjusted, start your day riding to the pier and board a ferry across the Pa Sak River. Cycle through Chao Phrom market, the most famous local market in Ayutthaya.
Then paddle along Chankasem Palace (nowadays National Museum), the old prison and Hua Ro Market before you arrive at Bang Lan Night Market. Park your bicycle here and take a stroll through lots of stalls with food and clothes. You will be served "appetizer" here and get a glimpse of the local nightlife.
After the sun has set, cross the road to Wat Mahathat, one of the best-known temple complexes in Ayutthaya Historical Park. Wat Mahathat, a royal monastery, once served as the seat of the Sangaraja, the head of the Buddhist monks.
Continue this spectacular evening bike ride and pass the illuminated Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Phra Ram temple complexes, where you can take some amazing pictures. The next impressive stop is Wat Phra Si Sanphet built in several phases between the 15th and 16th century and located inside the Grand Palace compound. After the battle with the Burmese, the temple was mostly destroyed but the building still houses the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings.
Enjoy delicious Thai dinner at a local restaurant and continue your adventure to the beautifully lit ruins of the magnificent Wat Chaiwattanaram temple complex on the other side of the river. Wat Chaiwattanaram was built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong to honor his mother and you can feel the influence of the Angkor temple in Cambodia.
Before heading back to the office, make the last stop at Wat Lokayasutharam and take a photo of the massive reclining Buddha, the biggest one in Ayutthaya. Pass by the enlightened Ayutthaya city pillars, or Lak Muang, where people make offerings and pray for good fortune, pregnancy, and other favors.
